Dakar this Spring

Hello All, I would appreciate advice about relative safety, or otherwise, of a solo trip through Morocco, Western Sahara bit of Mauri to Senegal this spring /summer.I know it's a well worn subject, but opinions about now rather than years back are what I'm looking for. I've been to Morocco before. Bike is XT660z, well-prepared. Thanks, Dennis Mays

Interested to read about this as well with new info. In Dakar already, want to get to Tangiers. for the OP, if you need any help in Dakar don't hesitate to write.

Quite a few solo bikers have been through recently ... An English guy Steve with his blog BikingOverYonder is one that immediately springs to mind!

Otherwise there are a few on West Africa Travellers that can assist I suspect

Yes, just did this solo late last year. Had a great time. Nothing to worry about over Morocco (in my opinion) if you keep your wits about you as you normally would. I've started writing a report over on ADVRider and am about to get to Mauri!

Please feel free to get in touch with any questions at all.

Peter Buitelaar (Bikershome) ran a trip through Western Sahara and Mauritania last year which went well off the normal routes and they had zero problems.

These are safe countries to ride and good fun too! UK government travel info advises against Eastern parts of Mauritania. Their advice tends to be conservative compared to that of other countries.

I have a 2017 CRF250L and had fuel issues in West Africa, which led me to clean my fuel tank and filter multiple times. I now use a guglatech filter, but too early to say i it works as I've only ridden South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini with this where the fuel quality is good.

Happy to help, if you like.
