Do you have uptodate info on Mauritania to Mali routes?
Hi Guys We head of soon down the west coast of Africa and want some info on transit from Mauritania to Mali. We plan to go as far east as Kiffa and then head south to Kayes in Mali. Has anyone done this recently? We are aware of problems with security in eastern Mauritania :nono:so don't want to go to far east.
The alternative is cross to Senegal via Diemma border and hug the Mauri/Senegal border but we have heard that even with a carnet some people have had to go to Dakar to extend there Laissez- Passer. Any help would be appreciated. Dave |
Recommended pists:
- Kiffa-Kayes over Kankossa, where you sign out from Mauretania. - or turn south earlier and go over Selibaby - Melga - Kayes. Border posts in Selibaby and then Melga on the malian side. Both pists are quite satisfying with several river beds to cross and passing through peaceful peul and bambara villages. |
Quote:
(same sand at the beginning, same mud later on- the latter disappearing fast with the rainy season now over) did it a few of weeks ago encounetered no security problems The route d'espoir east of Kiffa is in a deplorable state for some 100 or so km |
Thanks for the info guys. Looks like we may stick to plan a and go with your Kiffa to Kankossa route. We await info on the crossing to Senegal from Mauritania. Still no updated news on the carnet and trip to Dakar problem.
