DR650 frame in Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe
Hi,
Anybody would have a DR650 last generation frame lying around in the South Africain countries. I broke my frame in multiple areas yesterday riding north of Maun in Botswana. Thanks, Patrick |
OMG that sucks! :( Seldom hear of a DR frame busting up (unlike KLRs).
Might try the South Africa Adventure Riders page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/ktmadventureriderssa/ And the Wild Dog riders forum in South Africa Wild Dog Adventure Riding - Index Good luck! |
Thanks RideFar for the links.
A mechanic in Maun has plenty of contacts in South Africa. The only parts you'll find are for DRs from the late 80's. Suzuki did not import the last generation DRs. Nigeria is importing it. A mechanic was offering to weld the frame back but I did not thrust riding a welded frame. So I decided to accept my lost. I had really great time in Africa and was able to ride 27500km from Paris to Botswana down the West Coast. The trip is not ending like I imagined it but I'm satisfied overall. The DR650 frame is really strong. For anyone ready this don't shy away from bying one. Since entering Namibia and seeing a KFC restaurant at the border, I understood that the ride down the West coast of Africa is over. I had a very well setup suspension. So i decided to see what the DR650 can do. I kept riding harder and harder with the bike fully loaded. I improved my sand riding skills a lot. Sand riding became intoxicating and my riding speed kept rising over rough dirt roads. The suspension was not bottoming when riding hard. But one day i was riding big corrogations and the frame broke. For anyone needing parts, there is a DR650 2015 with 29000km at Top Steel Auto Electric in Maun Botswana. Patrick |
