DRC route?
Does anyone know anything about the route from Zambia (Lubumbashi) to Kananga and on to Kinshasa? And then the possibility of a barge up the Congo northwards. The plan is to use our Defender thru africa (again!) via countrys we missed.
I know it's thru some of the more difficult areas (security and "road" wise), and most recent travellers in DRC I know of use the Angola route. But the route from Zambia to Kinshasa (and it's challenges) are captivating to me... I'm hoping for some actually knowledge on the matter and not only hearsay! Don't know about the route, but contact Mario Pinto in Luanda. He has been called the Crocodile Dundee of Angola and has explored an extensive number of pistes all over the country. His email is mpinto@netangola.com Have fun. Graham Jackson www.africaoverland.org |
Graham,
Thanks for the e-mail tip! But I think I might have explained myself poorly in the first post; the "plan" is to skip Angola altogether and go directly into DRC from Zambia. Erik D. www.dunia.no ------------------ |
Oooop! Sorry Erik. It is clear now as I re-read your post. Looks on the map like an exciting route. Good luck. cheers graham |
Kananga is mainly dependent on supplies comining from Lubumbashi by train. Road traffic is none existing as far as I know.
It might be possible to load the car on the train. From Kananga to Ilebo there's road traffic, and in Ilebo you can take the barge. ;-) Rob |
