DRC visa advice
 

Hey guys, we are currently in Yaounde travelling south to Cape Town and contemplating whether it's best to get our DRC visas here (seemingly simple enough, 2 days & 100,000CFA), or whether it's possible to apply for them in Brazzaville?

Have been reading some info on overlanders being denied entry to Kinshasa because their visas were not issued in home country. Interesting, but unfortunate for us because we obviously have to get ours in the next week or so. Any info/assistance would be great!

we were stayin in Brazza in a Hippocame hotel and the owner told us it's really hard to get the DRC visa from there.. But I base my info just about hearing, not for experience :D

We also hear that from Brazza to Kinshasa with the boat, some people had to DHL their passports back home and get the DRC visa that way. But if you go through small border (i think it was called Boma), there should not be any problem. We went through Cabinda to DRC, they did not even say anything about the fact that our visa was from Benin...

Search the HUBB for Luozi borderpost and you will get reports which way to go with a visa not issued in your home countrys. My experience is 3 years ago, but I can´t imagine anything has changed depending infrastructure at this ridiculously remote bush border-post. When we were there it was one guy in a selfbuild hut who had to go into the next 5 hut village to get the entry stamp. There was no cellphone reception and I didn´t find a place in Africa that would deserve the title "middle of nowhere" more than that borderpost. Even if the news would have spread I am very sure some packs of cigarets could change the game easily.

Were you able to get into the DRC after all? I'm planning a similar trip, and am hoping to avoid sending my passport home for the visa. Would also appreciate any advice on Angola :)

no you cant get at the border. get in either Yaoundé or Douala in Cameroon depending which route you are taking
