East African 4x4 rental
 

Hello there

I am looking for an option to drive from East Africa to SA by 4x4. Preferably starting in Nairobi, then to CT. I‘m currently looking for one-way rental companies in Kenia and Uganda and haven‘t been successful so far. It‘s very difficult finding one that offers exactly that, and at a reasonable price.

Has anyone heard of a company that does rent 4x4s long-term one-way across East- and South Africa? Any ideas or maybe someone did exactly this?

I am not sure this would be possible as any vehicle coming from Kenya would need a temporary importation permit into South Africa which would have the driver's name on it requiring them to remove the vehicle again. You might find a rental which will allow this trip but it would be a two way journey with you returning it to the country of origin.

Safari Drive used to occasionally offer something like this. I think they move a few vehicles up to E. Africa for the season and then back to Southern Africa, and you could book the vehicle for the return leg.

But I'm sure their business has been heavily impacted by the pandemic, so who knows if that is still an option. Anyway, reach out and ask.

I suspect Bushlore would do it, but they'd charge you a one way delivery fee, and I bet it'd be a doozy!
