Ebola related travel problems, advice needed please.

Hello everyone, again I am asking for advice and wisdom from the forum.

I have just heard that Cameroon has/is closing its border with Nigeria due to the Ebola outbreak. As I am currently in Dakar and in theory heading slowly towards Cape Town this is a problem.

I was thinking about how to pass Nigeria and maybe the whole issue altogether. Please bear in mind this is my first trip into Africa and for me every day is new, fresh and a day to learn.

So looking at the map either Tog or Benin and maybe a boat further south. In short I am not sure what to do. So for now I will keep traveling and see how things unfold.

If anyone has any help, advice or experiences of shipping around troubles then I am all ears.
Cheers.

Ebola - Possible by-pass by Shipping

Hello again Zed,

Look at previous thread some weeks ago in this forum: "Shipping .... Accra or Lome to Walvis Bay" which includes link to couple who did so in past few months.

For Accra read Tema which is port 25km east where we visit most years (though unable just now due illness), suggest try there first, at least they use English!

Good Luck, Peter

Well I have been doing some homework whilst sat here in Bamako. I like the idea of a boat, just adds to the adventure. I went up to the Ghana Embassy and was told no for the visa! I should apply 6 months to a year in advance. Now I know this is Africa and not a straight forward place to do things but that is the first no I have received.

I have a Burkina Faso visa and I believe there is a Ghana embassy in Ouagadougou. I am still going to get quotes for the shipping. Does anyone have a recent Ghana visa experiences? I pulled up some 2012 stuff with a search, anything more recent?

This travel thing is just so good, but wow it sure keeps you on your toes.

Hi :-)

Did you see my answer in another thread from you?

There are travellers crossing these borders this day, without much hassle, maybe you can contact them?

Hello Surfy. Yeah I looked at the forum. I think the posts were back in april. I can't seem to get anything more recent up. that is why I have put the subject up again.

I am just not sure for certain what is going on and it is a long way to go for a dead end.

Just to let you know, the Ghana embassy in Burkina Faso will issue a tourist visa, but you need to write a statement (on the spot is fine) as to why you did not apply for the visa in your home country.
