Ferries from Port Sudan/Djibouti to Jordan
Hi there,
Looking to go north from sudan with 2 motorbikes, I'm not looking forward to going into and out of Egypt, even on a carnet. Possibilities are to go from Port Sudan of from Djibouti to Jordan. Anyone done that? Any informtion is welcome! Cheers, Corne |
I tried last year but I couldn't get a visa (or transit visa) for Saudi in Khartoum. You need the transitvisa even if you stay on the ferry in Jeddah.
The situation might be better now... It's not to bad to enter Egypt from Sudan but it takes som time. The ferry arived in Aswan Thursday and I had my new plates Monday. |
There was an option to go from Saukin to Jeddah. Some friends went that way about a year ago in a Landrover. They got a visa for Jordan in Khartoum, then a transit visa for Saudi, then the ferry tickets then a visa for Syria because aparently you can't get one in Jordan and you won't have time on a three day transit visa in Saudi.
Aparently all the boats going up to Jordan go via Jeddah. Hence you need to get a transit visa even if you stay on the boat and as the roads are supposed to be really good, its probably easier to ride up from Jeddah to Jordan. |
