Fyi: West coast route back to normal

Maybe this has been the case for a while but I just watched to a talk at the #ATFF by some guys who drove west side in 4 months UK to Zim this summer and fwiw, Covid passes were not an issue. Only at the Angola border did they have to 'buy' a negative test result (ie: no jab) for $15 but they got a free cholera thrown in!

Other than that, the usual visa dance. Cotonou seemed a good place to collect up to 5 visas.

As I understand it, currently east-side route remains blocked by Ethiopia (visas).

Out of interest what is the best time of the year to be heading down the west side of Africa and how long at a steady pace to get to South Africa? I have been up the east in the past and 5 months worked well with time to stop and see some sights along the way.

I would say not into the peak of the northern nor southern summers (+ whenever the equatorial wet season hits) but now that it is 95% sealed (if you want it to be) that's a bit less off an issue.
So leave Europe winter if going slow or early spring if going fast.
I would have thought at least 3 months
