Ghana trip 1 month beginning in Accra

I am flying in to Accra on thursday looking to pick up a bike in Caprice area and drive around for a month.
from what i have read buying bikes is relatively straight forward? any tips/advice would be great though. budget of around $1000 although if i know i can resell at the end of the month for a good value then maybe more. not looking any bigger than 200cc.

also, any suggestions for routes/sights that are worth seeing. looking to do lake volta, maybe wli falls and round to Mole national park. some time going along the coast too. very flexible, have multiple entries visa and willing to see where i end up but all ideas gratefully received!! and if anyone wants to come riding for a day or too would be good to meet up!:scooter::scooter:

Wli falls are nice. If you're doing the short 30 minute hike you do not need a guide, though they will pressure you. It's one path, not possible to get lost. If you get one you're contributing to the local tourism economy, which is nice, but that's it.

There's also a "monkey reserve" around that area (30 minutes - 1 hour prior coming from Accra). Tacoma? Tamale? Something with a 'T' at the front. Pretty much an area where the monkeys are semi-tame and they'll come steal bananas from you. You'll see signs on the way.

Mole National Park is well worth a look if you like your elephants.

Spend a few days in Kumasi, have a look at the (huge) market, take a look at the palace.

Cape Coast Castle is worth a visit, excellent museum there charting its role in the slave trade.

thanks for these tips. i've also heard that the 'yam boat' up lake volta is a good trip and a good way to get to some of the more remote villages? hoping that we aren't caught too much in the rains.
The Ghanian pharmacist yesterday said i was mad to go travelling in her country...very encouraging! I'm sure i will prove her wrong.

Gukewarmley,

You will prove her wrong! I have met quite a number of Ghanaian's here in the UK who think anywhere north of Kumasi is dangerous. I remember telling one lad from Tema about visiting Yendi, Tamale, Bolgatanga etc and he thought I was totally mad.

Look forward to your trip report and have a great time.
