Hotel Paradise or something like that. Kind of pricey, especially the restaurant (beer okay price). Clean, 24hr power, A/C, shower with hot water, 24hr security, fridge, sat TV- about $50USD/night. There is free wi-fi that you can get in the bar and restaurant, so is worth going for a drink and surf.

Kano Tourist Camp. Nothing special, but has cheap camping in the city and decent security. A couple of the cities nicer hotels are close so you can get tourist info and change money.

Generally Kano is not a beauty. Dusty, dirty, and smelly. A bit of searching can let you hit some cools spots.

Drinking- go to Sabon Gari (Christian Quarter) around where hotel above is. Places called taverns are also liquor stores.
