Kenya/Tanzania in rainy season?
 

Somewhere mid May i will be crossing the Ethiopia/Kenya border at Moyale and head down to Isiolo. From there on it will be down to Tanzania. Probably at the Isebania border crossing to head into the Serengeti.

Some sources indicate the long rainy season lasts till May, so mid/end may things should not be at it's worst. It's not the best time for game-viewing, but who wants to miss the Serengeti?

Two concerns. Whats the Moyale-Isiolo 'Road through Hell' status in May, and how is the Serengeti road just after the rainy season? Or is crossing the Serengeti that time of the year not that special?

Quick comment in regards to the Serengeti, as you are probably aware you can't cross it by bike as no bikes are allowed to be ridden in the parks. Probably makes sense, protects the animals from the occasional noisy bike and protects the rider from the occasional silent predator. The Serengeti is large and drier than you think, the Ngorogoro crater is really the crown jewel for focused wildlife viewing all in a small area. Don't miss it. whatever time of year you get there.

Thats quite interesting indeed. We will be driving with a small group of vehicles, including cars and bikes. The Dub in my nick is the Dub of VW.
We will need to find a way to accomodate for all vehicles.

Just need to figure out the influence of heavy rainfall on the Serengeti and Moyale tracks. Assume the main roads should be decent. Statisticly it would be after the long wet season, but climate's changing.

Northern Kenya is pretty dry, but someone out there will have had some practical experience to confirm the conditions.

If you have a convoy of trucks and bikes, you should consider taking the eastern road down by Lake Turkhana. Classic.

Not sure which one you mean, the Moyale/Isiolo seems to be the only ET/KY crossing, indeed east of lake turkhana

Sorry, should have been more clear. East side of the lake, which is west of the Moyale/Isiolo road. There is a crossing there, you have to go into town to get stamped out, but there is no Kenya border post to check in, you get to check in when you get to Nairobi.

We were advised in Ethiopia by lovely German/Ethio resident Couple that even in the rainy season if it gets too muddy, a wait of a day or two and the route will dry out...
