London to Capetown starting in December

Hi guys,
I'm planning my trip down through West Africa and should be in London by December.
With the current ebola epidemic my route is all up in the air.
My main plan is get to Dakar before heading to DRC were I plan to go from Kansusha to Lubambashi.
I then plan on heading east to travel down the east coast of Mozambique.
I'm looking for other riders thinking about doing the west coast. Mainly DRC as it would be good to do that part with another rider.
Regards
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

I'm planning on leaving Portugal in Jan05 heading to South Africa down the west coast and then back up via the east coast.
I'm looking closely at the ebola problem also, mainly cos it's closing borders! :(
Let's hope things get better real soon, particularly for the west africans.

What sort of time frame are you planing, and when do you expect to "hit" the Kinshasa - Lubumbashi route?

Cheers,
RN

Rndef,

If everything falls into place Its looking like Ill be in London maybe as early as mid November. The big thing will be the weather with regards to DRC. Im not going to be breaking any speed records and have not set a time as to how long. Im going to probably spent a good month in Morocco as I use to work there and want to catch up with a mate thats still living there. From then on It will be follow my nose so to speak. Dakar is a must but if I can join someone else for that part of the trip I could be flexible. The boarder closers also will determine how the trip pans out.
Keep in touch.

Hi Patrick,

yeah...let's keep in touch!
Same here...also don't have a set time table or even great route plans.
Gonna keep on watching the border situation and such and then decide!
Or go down nearer the west coast line or go inland towards Mali...

The thing about DRC (particularly Kinshasa-Lubumbashi) is in fact the weather....it's hard enough in the dry season, so its best done between Jun-Aug.

What bike are you taking?

Cheers,
RN

Your trip to Africa

I hear the ebola situation has improved in Sierra Leone how much time do you plan on spending all together going down and coming back up?Do you plan on filming at all?

It may be better to go via Burkino Faso and by pass Liberia and SL.Regards,Marco

Hey Patrick,

I'm leaving Portugal mid January heading towards South Africa.
If your still around in Morroco or somewhere maybe we can catch up.

Bryan on a KLR (was at my place late Novembre) should be in Morocco by now and also heading to SA.

Cheers

Hi,

I'll be travelling the other way around from mid January with a friend of mine : from Joburg through West Coast into Europe. So we may see you on the road. Also planning to do the Lubumbashi - Kinshasa stretch. Let's keep in touch as we exchange infos on our respective upcoming routes.

Cheers for now,

Sylvain

On the Ebola front - frankly, not worried about borders being crossed. I would just stay away from the hotspot countries.

Hi Sylvian,

Let's keep in touch and exchange nice and fresh info, and try to meet half way somewhere.
