The security post at Neguela was attacked yesterday! 64km west of Bamako on the RR13

Just heard from Bamako that a military camp in Kidal was also hit yesterday! :(

Kidal is hit all the time and there are no travellers within a 1000 km radius.
But Neguela is on the road from Kita to Bamako and a route that is often taken by travellers. Thought of as being more safe then the national route 1, NR1, since it is further south.
Only shows there is little security in Mali and if some groups decide to go west and south, there is nothing stopping them.
Same could be said for much of West Africa.

I know that Kidal is generally off the 'old' beaten track, I heard about that one after talking to Malian friends in Bamako. The Neguela one is worrying & there doesn't seem to be any further news about what happened anywhere!

West Africa will be ok, the southern countries along the coast are out of this chaotic mess thankfully, it's had enough damage with the Ebola outbreak!

Certainly won't stop me returning to CI as often as I do!

So yesterday Banamba was hit, about 220km north of Bamako on the road to Nara (Mauri border), unclear how many were involved. This happened early morning & they went after the military post again.

The theory behind it (which makes obvious sense) is that they've been hitting these southern posts so as not to have to return to Libya to re-arm ... but for the rest of us?!?!? :(
