Nema - Timbouctou

As far as I know, there are no official borderposts between Nema and Timbuktu.
Depending on which route you'll take you can do the formalities in Nema or Oualata. On the Mali side you'll have to checkin at the first oportunity you'll reach.

enjoy

Hi,
as Bart says, you can do your formalities with the police in Nema in a building close to the barracks.

Customs and immigration on the Mali side can be done in Nara, where you may also buy insurance and possibly your first beer for a while!

Possibly you'll encounter a little fuss, but I doubt any real hassle. We passed through a couple of times and it was fine.

You might find the situation with checkpoints and authorities in Mauri and Mali a little 'entrepreneurial'. Just smile and politely refuse, hand over your papers and wait for them to let you go. They always will.
