New Border Crossing Open? Mauritania-Senegal
Update from Bradt:
According to LewLewal Communications, there's now a vehicle ferry at the Démette/Démèt (Senegal) — Boghé (Mauritania) river crossing, which opens up a third, and thoroughly remote, potential vehicle crossing between Senegal and Mauritania. The ferry was previously used only for special events, i.e. an annual ziarra (pilgrimage to pay respect to marabouts/saints) for the late Thierno Lamine Djigo, but is now (as of some months ago, in fact) said to be operating a regular service between the two countries. http://lewlewal.com/actualites/front...met-en-marche/ http://lewlewal.com/wp-content/uploa...4-1024x768.jpg |
Nice. I have been down there looking for transport several times but there was no pirogue large enough for a car. Nothing between Rosso and Kayes, no ferry no bridge.
But for us to cross, border posts to do the formalities are needed. |
New Bridge at Rosso
So at last, the bridge at Rosso is scheduled to begin:
Pont de Rosso : premier coup de pioche en janvier 2018 Insha'Allah this will help stamp out the huge problems and delays everybody faces at this border. With Mauritania pushing to rejoin ECOWAS let's hope this is the start of sorting out the situation there in an effort to make cross border trade and travel easier. We'll have to wait and see.....! A new remote crossing = ideal way to rip us off by Senegalese customs officials :censored:
