Nigeria-Camerun border situation

I know recently Nigeria Camerun border seems to be close, cause there's some politically problems. Is this true? Does anyone have any more accurate news ?

We're at Cotonou, Benin now. We will be passing the Nigerian - Cameroon (Ekok) border in a few weeks. A lady we spoke here has some relatives in Cameroon close to the border. She called them for us and seems that the border is OPEN.

There is still some trouble and demonstrations (anglo vs franco) but shouldn't be a problem for tourists.

All ok at Ikom-Ekok

Hi, we passed the Nigeria-Kamerun Border at Ikom last week. Everything went fine. the border is open, the staff is friendly on both sides. Best source for informations - besides checking Journal du cameron Website daily - is at the Heritage Hotel at ikom (best place to stay anyway). On the cameroun side there are checkpoints every 10 kms. they are polite but nervous. Better to stay on this border instead of Akwaya and Bissaula - they are smaller, more noth and in the bush - there might be more nervous Military up there! The have their Special combat unit - BIR - around - no guys to kid with!
Anyway our trip - from Lome to Yaounde have been fantastic! the around 60 checkpoints that we passed were all easy!
wish you a safe trip!

I organised the visa in my homecountry, Austria!
Unfortunatley I have no experience in which of the neighbors it would be best.
Sorry

Need tips

We're probably going to cross Nigeria in the start of March, could really need some advice and tips for driving through. I've only heard horror stories from Nigeria and the motivation to get all the way to South Africa is fading a bit. Best routes, safety tips, anything helps. Would be very thankful if someone with experience could message me on whatsapp +4745875904 or luis@wenus.net.

I crossed Nigeria about 10 days ago, from Nikki in Benin to Calabar in the South East. It took 3 days.

No horror stories, lots of checkpoints and crazy drivers but everyone friendly and very helpful. Fuel very cheap too!

Got a Cameroon visa in Calabar in 1 hour 5 minutes.

Border was closed when I arrived at Mfoum due military action but opened in afternoon.

Superb ride from the border to Mamfe and the next day to Bamenda (but some rain). Now in Yaoundé where the rainy season seems to be starting early this year.

Blog is here if you want more detail or send me a message

Hi People,

Great to read your experiences. I'm off with my lady in '19 to do the west coast route top to bottom (after London - Nordkapp - Gibraltar) and news of your travels are both encouraging and helpful (that for https://www.journalducameroun.com/en/ Chronist - any other similar sources of info?).

Any other tips or places to visit (will look at blogs!) would be great.

Thanks again.

ZB (Simon)

PS: Will any of you be at the HUBB meeting in UK in June?
