Non-Kenya Resident crossing boards with Kenyan motorcycle????
Hey all,
Just landed in Nairobi. Still trying to sort out a bike for the next five months. Wanted to know if it's possible to have a bike registered in my name when I buy it? If not, will I have issues crossing the borders? (Also, if anyone knows where I can pick up something under 250cc in Nairobi, that would be brilliant.) Cheers |
You will need to be have a Kenya Revenue Authority tax PIN number in order to buy and register a vehicle in your own name. One has to be a Kenya resident in order to get a KRA PIN number.
When exiting Kenya, the log book (vehicle papers) for Kenyan registered vehicles has to be deposited with Kenyan customs at the border post and collected on return. That means you have to exit and return through the same border post. I would imagine that the logbook would have to be in the name of the person driving the vehicle/motorbike - or, at the very least, have a letter from the registered owner giving permission to take the vehicle out of the country. Good luck! |
details?
Hey! How'd it go leaving Kenya? I may be flying in next month to do something similar. Any info you've gathered would be greatly appreciated.
