now in Banjul considering Guinea Bissau ?

Hi,

I'm in Banjul having come from Ceuta
on the excellent new Atlantic road. No sand
at all except the Mauritania border bit
and the 100km piste to Diama Dam from Rosso.

Question: What's it like from Banjul to Bissau
and has anyone any recommendations on roads
in the Casamance ?

Hiya,

I am going to be doing the road in 5 weeks time down from Ceuta. Was there much hassle at the border of Mauritania or Senegal. I will have a Carnet - have you got one?

Any info you could give me would be very helpful - how many days did it take you through Mauritania on the new road?

Also what are diesel prices - in Western Sahara, Mauritania and Senegal.

Yours

Andy

Thanks for the update, David, there's several on bikes headed that way in early Jan. We don't have carnets, so I'm interested in the reply to Andy's question.

Just in case..... these are average riding times : From Algeciras to Banjul

Day 1 Ceuta Marrakech
Day 2 Marrakech Tan Tan
Day 3 Tan Tan Dakcla
Day 4 Dackla Nouaddibou
Day 5 Nouaddibou Nouatchott
Day 6 Nouatchott Dakar
Day 7 Dakar Banjul

Driving just during daylight a Honda XL600 LMF at max cruising speed of around 110 km/h

No Carnet de Passage.

6 litres/100km

Remember : No petrol from Nouatchott to Rosso . Just diesel !
The Mauritanian part is all tarmac.
The only dirt areas are the way to Diamma (Senegal) and the Moroccan->Mauri border.

Police much more friendly than when they see you in a big 4x4 They don't stop bikes , nor they try to fine you for ficticious things

Everything is much cheaper (the Barra ferry cost less than 1 Euro for a motorcycle) .

Only trouble is that *apparently* motorcycles in Gambia should drive on the hard-shoulder .They only have mopeds , or 100cc scooters.. . So most people assume that any motorbike (even if it is a big overland-bike) should use the Hard Shoulder , not the road , hence Constant issues with local drivers.

Hope this helps ... any questions... mail to

Have fun, Take care
