Could someone update me on the travel conditions from Port Sudan to Khartoum?

I rode through Sudan last year. I was told the road from Port Sudan to Khartoum was paved and in great condition. I rode roughly 200 kms on this road out of Khartoum and the road was paved and in great shape. Hook.

I FLEW that route a few years ago whilst ferrying an aircraft from Africa to Europe. I sure didn't look like there was very much in the way of settlement or human habitation down there. You might want to check out the route carefully - find out what services are available, how far it is between towns, etc. It looked to me like it was a rocky desert.
