Is it possible to get a Burkina Faso visa at the border?
Kind of want to avoid going to Bamanko in Mail!
|
You can get the visa at the border, but it's 95,000 CFA as opposed to half that in Bamako and other places with consulates.
They cranked it up within the last year or two. It used to be reasonable at the border but no longer. I pointed out to the consulate guy in Lagos that that was a disincentive for travellers to visit and spend money, he said he knew and there was some general chatter about potentially lowering it but whether that will ever happen, who knows. |
It has come down according to my information. It now costs 24,000CFA.

Well I'll be, a hypothetical positive change to visa costs and it actually came to pass. In Africa no less. It was just early January when I got mine so that is lightning speed!
|
What I find interesting is that the price reduction happened literally days after the problems in northern Mali escalated leading to the coup in Bamako. I wonder if Burkina Faso did it to encourage the tourists to visit Burkina instead of Mali?
Either way very pleased it has come down in price. Word of warning: Americans are still being charged $100usd for the Burkinabe visa according to information from travellers wha have just gone through. |
I got My Burkina -F visa in Bamako, Mali on 1st May.
We wait for visa about 2 hours. No problems. Visa costs 24 000 CFA. In You are in Bamako,You can stay in Sleaping Camel hostel. Great pleace. |
Conflicting reports from some saying the B Faso visa is once again 94,000CFA at the border?
Can anybody confirm how much it is at the border these days? I understood it had gone back down to a more reasonable 24,000 CFA (at the border and the embassies). |

Brendan that's great information many thanks for the update :thumbup1:
But just to clarify, you are saying it is 24,000CFA at the border, not just the embassies? Just that I met a Japanese and a Spanish guy who both said it was 40,000CFA at the border last week! As ever always contrasting information, would appreciate it if you could confirm this was the price at the border? Thanks in advance. |

Had the visa at the embassy in Bamako two weeks ago
24000 individual single entry but as a family we had 4 for 49000 CFA ask for group visa |
Can confirm the visa is availablle at the border if you need it (Paga for Ghana to Burkina), and Niongoloko (for Burkina into Ivory Coast).
Costs: 24,000 CFA - maximum 3 days validity 47,000 CFA - upto 3 months, single entry Lots of other options (ie 6 months multi entry)......so as you can see basically it is available at the border if you need it but double the price it costs in the embassies. |
Yes, the prices atthe Land Border are 2x (double) the price at the Embassy.
These prices are NOT STANDARDIZED as written above by some poster/writer, so if you are expecting to pay the (cheaper) Embassy prices at the Land Border, good luck. .... well, maybe you get someone at the Land Border using the wrong price memo. |
I just got a message on my website from someone saying it jumped back up again. It's now 94,000 CFA at the border again. Not sure why, but it has. Best get it done elsewhere when it's 24k for single entry or 31k for 3 months multi entry.

Very sudden change, it was still 47,000CFA just yesterday when we crossed and I checked the price. Will keep my ears open from other travellers if it has gone up again.
