Problems with Fugawi accuracy in South Africa

There appears to be a problem with the accuracy of the Fugawi South African Street maps. For some reason you are hardly ever shown at the place where you should be! This is not withstanding your Map Datum choice (it must be setup for WGS 84). This situation is also true but worse for maps transferred to a Palm or PocketPC PDA.

In rural (non-urban) areas the accuracy appears to vary from being spot-on to more than 5 Kms (5,000m or 3.1 miles) out. At city street level the accuracy varies between being spot-on and 500 meters out. This varies from area to area and you therefore never know what the deviation is!

For GPS navigation purposes this poor accuracy is difficult because the Fugawi street map can literally show you to be on another parallel road three blocks away to the one you are actual on!

If u need streetmaps of South Africa have a look at our website www.afrigis.co.za and go to the downloads section. We have quite a few datasets available for the pocketPC. We can also provide you with any data that you may require.

Cheers
