Road conditions Namibia to Zambia
Our Aussie registered Landrover has arrived Walvis Bay, Namibia from UK. Upon extraction from the container we had planned to make our way North through the Caprivi Strip and on to Zambia and beyond.
Recent research indicates that this area experienced some serious flooding around February. Is there anybody who can give us a report on road and bridge conditions as we have read that some sections are in need of extensive repair. Would we be better heading through South Africa first and then up the east coast so as to give things a chance to dry out through the Caprivi area before tackling it later in the year when heading South again? Any thoughts would be appreciated! |
Join the email list or search the archives at overland.co.za as there has been a lot of talk about this in the last week.
Still some flooding, but I was there last May and it was pretty dry by then. I'd relax in the rest of Namibia for 2-3 weeks and then head up.... (Nambia is great, don't leave too early!) |
Thanks for the info. Your right, two to three weeks will take us to the end of May and dryer roads!

We are in Tsumeb (5 bikes, 6 people), hard to miss and heading towards the Caprivi as well. The roads are fine so far, just a few hours of torential rain last night.
