Senegal / Mali border, any experiences.
Hello everyone.
Well so far I have made it to Dakar. Senegal and it's people are just wonderful. Now I intend to move onto Mali and learning all the time. So as the Diama experience was................ interesting, I thought I would ask about the Senegal / Mali border. I will be getting the visa here in Dakar, have the carnet for the bike and have carte brune cover for it as well. I try to ensure I have all the answers before I get the questions, especially at a border. Any information or experiences will be greatly appreciated, I still very much a newby to this. Cheers Zed. |
That border poses no problems, no need to pay any money. Not the same as diama!
You ll be fine. In Mali we went up to mopti, which was fine about 3 months ago, but check the status. Timbuktu was off limits... Safe and fun travels, Bart |
Elbarto, yeah you were right. No worries just breezed through. A positive experience over Diama. I am heading Mopti way but only as far as Fana. I think from there I will turn of the tarmac and see which way the breeze is blowing.

hi,
how did you get to Dakar? wich route did you take? I want to go to Dakar, coming from Europe, but all I get is bad news about the situation in Mali, Mauretania and Algeria... It's getting worse and worse every day, it seems. My planned departure is over 2 months, but with those news messages, it seems that my journey will end in Marocco. And I'm not happy with it, grrrr! |
Leaving for Morocco End of December

Hi,
my departure will be mid of November, starting from Brussels. I want to visite some cities in Spain, take my time for marocco. I don't know how long that's gonna take, but I think I'll cross the sahara somwhere end of december? I definitly want to have some company crossing mauretania, so surely when timing is right, let's meet up and have a drink! I don't have a blog yet but now I have yours. otherwhise, i will stil be on the forum... |
Hi,
Cool. I have already done Morocco so there are only a couple parts I want to see. I spent a year there driving overland trucks taking tourists around. Because I was in the truck and had a set route I did not get to see all I wanted. High Atlas Mountains are my main hit list. So I might be somewhere near the Sahara around that time? Ill keep you posted. Quote:

Not sure when your looking to do this, Nigeria and Cameroon border is firmly closed. I have a friend on a motorbike (the OP) and another in a Landcruiser stuck looking to container past the closure. They have met and been in touch with even more overlanders stuck for the same reason. I was lucky being on a bicycle I can fly cheaply so I'm now in East Africa after getting as far as Burkina Faso. Is there anyway of being put in contact with your friends? I was planning on leaving UK in December and heading south. As it is my plans have had to change because of border closers but these 2 really put a spanner in the works. Cheers Patrick |
