Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ivory Coast
Hi,
Due to leave in a couple of weeks, and headed to West Africa. Morocco->Mauritania->Mali->Senegal->Gambia is a sort of rough idea. But further south Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ivory Coast (in the news now) all seem to be difficult safety wise. Is this true? Anyone know the current situation? cheers, Doug |
Hello,
Friend of mine had crossed Cote Ivoire earlier this year from Abidjan to Malian border (on Africa Twin). Although it was before anti-French riots in the south. He was more than happy upon exiting the north (frequent armed checkpoints to pass). If you do need more details I can try to contact you. Best regards, |
I was in Sierra Leone twice in 2004, no problems there, it's quite peaceful, you can buy fuel without difficulties, etc. Liberia and Cote d'Ivoire are a totally different story, I suggest you try avoid those two countries, if you can find an alternative routing. If you can't avoid them, then avoid the capital cities at all possible cost.
