Somewhere to stay in Accra
We need to pick up our Nigerian visas in Accra and have a couple of questions.
1. Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay? We have a LC with a roof tent so camping / free car park accommodation is always good! 2. Does anyone know how long the Nigerian visas take? Cheers, Will |
Staying in Accra
Hello Will,
Sorry we're in UK just now and not at our other home in Tema so no direct help! Regarding visas, Bradt guide reckons usually within 24 hours, with experience of W Africa make that about 4 days! Nigerian High Comm is at Josef Broz Tito Ave, N of Ring Rd, near Police and Fire HQs. For hotel in area in USD 40-50 range I suggest Adeshie which I have visited though not stayed there - it's about 1 mile from the Nign HC. Good luck Peter |
Big Millies in Kokrobite is fun, particularly at weekends. There are generally a few overlanders and assorted students hanging around. You can camp there, but the downside is it is a 30 minute trip into central Accra.
Otherwise to the east of the city there is a really nice place called Akwaaba guesthouse. It is a very different vibe from Big Millies and is a bit more formal, but nice nonetheless. The rooms are good and they will let you camp if you ask nicely. cheers |
Staying in Accra
If you need to you can contact my wife in Accra. We have an apartment in a safe place in Sowotoum in Accra. My wife and son live there. They are Ghanians and say they will welcome you to stay in one of the rooms.
Contact me on terjelr(A)yahoo.no if you are interested and I'll give you her phone number. |
Thanks for that everyone, especially your offer Terje. Unfortunately we couldn't get internet until we were on route to Accra, figured we were a little late to get the phone number by then!
Ended up having one night in Big Milly's, now we're in a cheap a cheerful guesthouse near the embassy. Thanks again Will |
