South Africa / Swaziland / Mozambique on a motorcycle

Hi everyone,
We are French citizens wishing to travel on a South African registered motorcycle around this coming December-January from Durban to Mozambique through Swaziland. Any info or advice on border crossings/visa? Anyone’s crossed these borders recently? Any particular information on Lebombo (SA/Moz) and Namaacha (Moz/Swaz) border post ?
Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I did the same about 2 years ago, crossed multiple border posts between SA, Swaziland and Mozambique on my bike with SA numberplates. No CdP, no temporary import, nothing was needed.
Also to Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda etc without any problem.

Marcel

For Swaziland (Eswatini) to Moz i would use the Mhlumeni/Goba border post (it is actually open 24 hours) it is much quieter than Lomahasha/Nomaacha and a nicer route.

You will need to have your vehicle registration papers in your name (or a police signed affidavit from the owner) and you will need to purchase 3rd party insurance for moz at the border (even if your own insurance covers mozambique it is not really worth having the argument in portugese)

Komatiport/lobamba border is super-busy I would only use it if i had to I would rather go through Nomaacha and through swaziland to SA. the road from Komatiport is also very busy, mostly single lane, with lots of trucks, not somewhere i would want to be riding a bike. a great route would be namaacha-mhlume-tjaneni-ngonini-piggs peak-bulembu-barberton
