Taking a car into The Gambia
Hi All,
Has anyone tried taking a right hand drive car into The Gambia, is it allowed temporarily, or banned outright? Thought might pop in since down here. Thanks |
Should be OK but the customs might try to pull you on it. They'll probably say it's illegal but they'll "try to help you....etc etc ..."
Main crossing on Kaolack-Banjul road has become tiresome/unfriendly/aggressive, crossings from south Gambia are far more relaxed. If you're driving something that looks like an "overlander" i.e. a fully equipped Landie or whatever it's no problem. On the main crossing, first thing in the morning is the best time. |
officially you can't but I saw a car from the Timbuktu challenge that was right hand drive in Kotu in the Gambia two days ago.
I would use the Farrafenni border as it is much more friendly |
-I was in 2006 in Gambia with a RHD mondeo-
I was barred at the border . No way . Absolutely no -way I was told. I had a friend -thou- with good set of contacts in the goverment, and managed to issue me a special-rhd clearance for 30 days . Once inside Gambia , I was being pulled over almost 100% of the times. And was inmediately asked to produce that RHD clearance paper. It may be better now . |
Sorry Don't know about RHD issue
But... I was in the Gambia this time last year Road blocks much less friendly than previous years. Definately better in early morning Last year they imposed a seat belt rule that was, and probably still is, strictly enforced. Don't get caught out, it is expensive if you do!! John |
