Tanzania-Dar es Salaam
Hi, anyone going to be in or around Tanzania/Zanzibar over December'04?
RichLees, are you still around in the area? JoeTwin. |
we came into Tanzania from Malawi yesterday, but will be passing 100km from Dar rather than going into it. we're heading up to Moshi and then into Kenya. are you out here somewhere, too?

Unfortunately we will only be in Tanzania from the 26/12/2004, and will spend New Year in Zanzibar. Safe trip up to Kenya.
|
thanks. have a good trip.
we should be flying (over Sudan) from Ethiopia to Chad by then on our way to Dakar by 15/1/05. yeehar! |
We are in Nairobi and will be for another week. We stay at Jungle Junction. Our BMW is stil in 'hospital'

Hi Jc,
Are you on your way up Africa or on your way down? We leaving South Africa on the 16/12 and will follow the road through Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and if all works out we will return through Mozambique in the New Year. Safe riding, J |
My wife and I (BMWR1150GS) are heading north to Europe. Will be in Ethopia for New Year hopefully. Enjoy your ride, Tanzania and Kenia are the 2 most beautifull countries. If you plan to come to Kenya, you will need a Carnet.

Hey JC,
Me and a friend (xt600 and a tenere) are in Arusha waiting for some parts and our carnets to come via DHL. We're off to Nairobi come Wednesday to get Ethipian visas and then northbound. If you're still around, we'd love to have a drink. Also: If a carnet is required to get into Kenya, do you know how it would be possible to get into Ethiopia via Lake Turkana? And: Is there a bike shop in Nairobi which sells good tires? (not just VeeRubbers?) One of the bikes needs a new set of tires and we were going to get them while in Arusha, but can't find any good ones. Happy travels, Brian |
call/search for Ian Duncan: he's in Nairobi on 02891242. he has MT21s for about 300US per pair.
don't know about lake turkana, but we just came up to Addis via Isiolo-Moyale in a rather pedestrian 9 hours including a puncture and cracked radiator ;-) |
Hey Rich,
How did they handle your carnet at the Ethiopian border? If we cross in through Turkana, we won't have an entry stamp. This isn't a big deal if they don't want to give us an exit stamp when we leave. Oh, and how much was insurance in Ethiopia? Thanks, Brian |
Are we still going to need a carnet for a Zim registered vehicle?
|
I think you will need carnet regardless of origin
ethiopians want to see your carnet but have their own TIP. insurance wasn't required this year, but you could get it in addis for 6US last year sorry for the delay in replying ... been out and about |
