Tanzania - temporary import permit or carnet
Hi
I am reading conflicting advice. If we buy a landcruiser in S.A and drive up to Tanzania and back down to S.A via Botswana and Namibia could we do this without a carnet. If the car is S.A registered then we won't need a carnet for S.A, Botswana or Namibia, the only place we may need a carnet it seems is Tanzania - does anyone know if it is possible to get a temporary import permit for Tanzania rather than go through the hassle getting a carnet for one country? Thanks Tammy |
We came through TZ in Jan'07 and we used the carnet we were forced to buy for Kenya. When we drove up Jan'05 though we used a TIP. Sorry that the info is not more recent though.

YOU can enter Tanzania without a Carnet de Passage. They will issue you a Temporary thing (TIP , lassez passe , etc)
however people with a Carnet , will have the oportunity to use it if that makes them happy. but not .Not required. Javier |
Does anyone know the TIP and other vehicle related charges for Tanzania currently?
