travel from Dakar to Bissau without private transport
hello
What is the best way to travel from Dakar to Bissau without private transport? Train? Bus? thanks |
Bernardo, a friend is using my West Africa LP guide so I cannot check but I think that in that area there are not many train lines beyond Zouerat-Nouadhibou and Bamako-Dakar.
I rode to Bissau this February and I don't recall seeing or crossing any train line south of Dakar. So bus is the way to go. I'm sure that LP has info on this, as soon as I get mine I'll contact again. Some info here: African Passenger Railways & Africa Train Travel Um abraço, Luis Cabrita Panoramio - Photos by LMCabrita > Lisboa Bissau Fev2011 |
I've done that route by bus, although not all in one go (it was in bits spread over about 15 yrs!)and going north rather than south. Dakar to Banjul is a common route so you won't have any problems with that. Should take about 8hrs from memory but delays / breakdowns are frequent. The southern section took two buses (I can visualise the changeover location but can't remember where it was) and about 24 hrs (I slept in the bus).
No trains going north - south but you might consider taking the Bamako train as far as Tambacounda and getting a bus from there if the timetable fits with your schedule. |
thanks!!
any ideas about prices? do you think that I can find a taxi that is willing to take me and some friends to Bissau? I'm just analysing if it makes any sense to fly to Dakar instead of flying to Bissau (it's much cheaper!) ps: Luis Cabrita enviei-te um email para as tuas "private messages" |
