uk-south africa, scooters
a friend of mine and i are planning an overland tour to south africa from the UK, on scooters.
Apart form the usual info picked up on the forum does anyone have any specific advise or route idea since the sudan / ethiopia appears to be particularly contentious. any help appreciated Cheers. |
Its pretty straightforward between Sudan and Ethiopia as far as I'm aware. We drove through it in 2002 and it was fine. The difficult issue depending on whether you are coming from West Africa is Chad / Sudan where there has been fighting between government troops and rebels near the border. This gives two problems, 1) the overall security for wanting to pass through there, 2) even if your prepared to risk it, getting a visa.
If you come from the North it should be fairly straightforward. There is usually some hassle going through Egypt with lots of paperwork and lots of costs but just a process to go through. |
cheers, thats good to know.
what crossing point did you take? which do you recommend for the sudan into ethiopia crossing. cheers |
