We managed to get Ghana today in Abidjan, against any hope. We are in town anyway and thought it worth a try.
US passports. Others may not fare as well. 30.000 XOF each for 3 day service. 20.000 more for express 24 hour. We chose express so they couldn't change their minds, but we were offered the full menu of single or multi, 1 2 3 6 or 12 month durations. Not a single question or issue raised, it went smooth. We only ever dealt with the receptionist, who we found bureaucratic but not unfriendly. We stacked the deck high for ourselves. We brought: Nice, professional clothing. A letter explaining that we did not apply at home due to our plans changing enroute. 2 application forms pre filled and perfect, no errors 2 passport photos each 2 hotels listed as our references A fake booking.com reservation for Accra A financial statement showing ample funds An email quote from a shipping company in Accra for the car. We oozed politeness, but only said we wished to submit our application. We didnt use the word "request" once. ...And they are in hand. 30 day tourist visas, with a 90 day validity (ie 90 days to use the visa, 30 day stay allowed) Xmas came 51 weeks early apparently. :D Bonne chance out there! - Mike |

Not sure if this is the right thread, but for anyone using the Entente Visa (VTE):
We got ours in Barcelona. (Nov 2016) We used it to enter Cote d'Ivoire from Guinea-Conakry, but used an unusual route (Lola to Danane) -- no troubles. Exiting Cote d'Ivoire, we again took an unusual route, that of Abengorou via Niable to Kofikrom, then on to Kumasi. Our Ghana visa held up, and this is a very relaxed border. The unexpected bit: We were able to re-use our VTE Entente visa to enter Togo from Ghana on the coast road (Aflao - Lome) with no issues. We filled out the provided Fiche de Police form and supplied our Visa number from the VTE, and it was un-questioned. When exiting Togo, again on the coast road (between Aneho and Grand Popo), the Togolese officials told us that our visa was "not true", but we were exiting, so we laughed and told them "we paid true money for it", and basically did not take them seriously. After some deliberations in french, and clearly not impressed with us, they stamped us out. Benin did not question the "not true" Entente visa, however, it was the Benin embassy that supplied it, so we did not expect problems. Some notes: 1. The Benin embassy wrote "plusiers" on our visa, for multiple-entry. This is not correct, as once you leave the entente region, the visa is used -- but we appreciated the consulate in barcelona adding a little extra punch to our bluff. :) 2. Our friends right behind us entering Togo also had an Entente visa, and it was not accepted. We are American, and our friends are European, so I am unclear what would have been different, but there may be some favoritism going on with the officials. A lot of them congratulated us on Trump (argh) 3. Our VTE was never "stamped" or otherwise cancelled by Cote d'Ivoire. I don't know if this is because of the abnormal border entry officials not following procedure, but it is a possibility. Worst case, we would have taken a 7-day togo visa at the border for 10,000 CFA, and a 2-day transit visa for Benin (which can be extended in Cotonou), however, we've somehow lucked out with our VTE and it has provided value for money. It can be done. I hope it works for anyone else using this plan. :D Cheers, - Mike |
Tryed to get my Visa for Angola but was denied in Berlin, Tryed again in South Africa, Capetown and Windhoek and finally got it for 160 Euro after visiting the Embassy every day for 3 months: http://afrikamotorrad.eu/?report=en_westkueste By this time my Congo Visum had allready expired...

Maybe not what this thread is meant for, but: I might fly in to West Africa from Colombia later this year. I won´t be able to get any visas in advance so I wondering if it´s possible to get visa on arrival in any country in West Africa? I have EU-passport. Cheers...
Edit: As far as I understand: 1) It´s possible to get a seven days visa at arrival at the Airport in Lomé, Togo? True? 2) It is possible to get a e-visa to Cote d'ivoire (Can anyone verify this?) 3) Senegal was visa free last time I was in West Africa (2009-10). Then I heard a visa was necessary. But I read this on wikitravel: "Biometric Visas are no longer required". I don´t get it. Can I get a visa at arrival or not? :-) 4) Gambia Have I forgotten any? I have to check up Liberia and Guina too.. :-) |

As for your VTE entries; as you know I often travel on the same Barcelona issued one, but I'm on an EU passport (Irish). The 'plusieurs entrees' hasn't been a problem for me & I've used it all over the region as a multiple entry. The VTE issued in Ouaga isn't a multiple entry but single entry, which might have been the difference between you & the others you met dependant on where they got their VTE. The Trump support astonishes me, so many are pro-Trump despite the fact I explain what he's setting out to do, they see him as some great future ... :helpsmilie: :offtopic: |
Ouagadougu (Burkina Faso) does not issue the Visa Entente any more! They said it's dead. At least in Burkina and at the Moment. Check iOverlander for the latest Info.
Maybe Barcelona still works. But we managed to successfully apply for the Nigerian Visa in Ouagadougu. Easy Application. Fee varies accros Nationalities. Sweden and Poland shall be 48.000 CFA. Yes, we have been to the Service des Passeports in Ouagadougou. Some weeks ago they issued it here without problems. Since a few days they say it's dead. A US couple tried it a few days before us, they were told the same. But i guess it can change any time again, Africa! |
