VTE (Visa Touriste Entente) - route and # of entries experience?? quick help please
VTE visa i've read is supposed to permit travel 60 days, within only the 5 countries, 1 entry per country.... but i have read some post pre-2012 that mention experience.of entering the countries twice and of going outside the 5 countries and re-entering and still using the visa.
Planning to get my VTE in BF in next couple of days. My questions:to help choose among the following routes: 1. CI (north towns only) -> BF(using the VTE) --> Niger --> Benin --> Togo --> Ghana (then Togo - Benin-Nigeria , Cameroon, etc south ) Would i need to pay again to enter Benin and Togo? Where do they put the entry & exit stamps (separate page or on top of the VTE visa)? I'm making a new passport in Ghana. 2. CI --> Ghana -->Togo--> Benin --> Niger Can i still use the VTE visa (practical experience vs what is written) to enter Togo - Benin - Niger? I suppose the onlt problem oint would be Ghana to Togo as border patrol usually looks only at one country coming from vs whole route Thanks for quick responses. |
We tried to get a VTE in BF in 2009 & were told that it no longer existed.

VTE exists/available in Ouaga (Direction of National Police - photo with sign "VTE" available if u want; and Niger) with conditions:
1. Countries -- app form asks which of the 5 countries -- check mark all of them 2. Timeframe - 60 days 3. # of entries per country - 1 4. can u go outside the 5-VTE-country zone and return to a new/not visted yet on the VTE visa country? Yes... i asked this question several times and used examples of routes -- answer was yes |
We were also told that VTE doesn't exist anymore. We asked at the end of 2013 and beginning of 2014 at:
1. Embassy of Ivory Coast in Senegal 2. Embassy of Burkina Faso in Ghana 3. Embassy of Togo in Ghana It seems that everybody knew about this visa but the helpful staff were always telling us that the embassies one by one were stopping to issue this visa, so nowadays it doesn't exist anymore. It's a pity because it seems it was a really helpful visa scheme. |
@furious .... the VTE had to be obtained when you are in one of the VTE participating countries
... so you need to enter one of them ... but then only Burkina-Faso and Niger are issuing it ...... you can't get it at their embassies outside the VTE zone |

The thing is that if we go there and we cannot get the VTE, then we will be stuck. I see that there is no embassy of Togo or Benin in Ouaga and it seems they don't issue visas at the small border posts between Burkina Faso and Togo or Benin. So how can we take those visas then? |
You have to go to the "Services des Passports" in Ouaga, see the other thread.
You need a full visa for Burkina to apply, not a transit visa. Somebody had found it in Niamey. It would be interesting to know if also the three other countries offer the VTE, and if they do, where? |
Embassies of country XYZ based in another country are ignorant on VTE
[and sometimes ignorant on other things which can work for you or against you] in Ouaga, go to Direction of National Police (near to the home building of the FESPACO film festival but opposite side of the road) VTE available only in Oauga and Niamey as of mid-late 2013 Avoid being trapped will cost you time/money .. consider it as Plan B and Plan C (you need multiple options in Africa) ... get the visa for one of the other countries before going to Burkina. eg. Ivory Coast ... go to Niger ... fly or bus to Ghana (visa is easy and lower cost in Ouaga; i got mine in Senegal though as i wanted some assurance) many more options in Ghana ... in general .... and of course do not know the passport that u travel on |
