Bent Rear Pannier Rack and Frame
 

I managed to bend my rear pannier carrier and frame. Any ideas how to fix it (I tried hitting it very hard with a hammer :( )

Its not clear from the photo if the top of the LHS frame is bent in or the bottom is bent out, once you have figured it out, its always best to remove the frame to straighten it or any of the brackets out, check it on a flat surface and then clamp it in a sturdy vice and use a long solid bar to lever things back in line if possible, the longer the bar the better, it gives you more leverage, control and you are less likely to bend the frame too far - or using a hydraulic or scissor jack works well too- avoid the hammer!, after you are done bending check all the welds, if there is any cracking get them re welded and painted.


** Just realised you meant the sub frame of the DR was also bent - you cant remove that!, but use the same system, strap the bike down onto a bike lift or something similar so the front/ main part of the frame is immobilised and then remove all the plastics/ pannier frame and use a very long bar to tweak the rear subframe back in line.

I took the plastic off the rear end and luckily it looks like just the rear 'wheel arc' section is bent. Did notice a few cracks in the paint around the welds but think they are intact. Really good idea with the hydraulic jack!

Going to have a more detailed look and get some photos tomorrow!
