DR650: Fitting inline fuel filter to IMS tanks
I have just fitted an IMS 4.9gal tank to my '06 DR650 and normally put an inline fuel filter between the tap and the carb on my bikes.
Due to the close proximity of the intake nozzle on the carb (pointing upwards and seems to be in a fixed position?) and the tank tap, it's going to be a heck of a squeeze with some doubled back fuel line, probably resulting in a kinked line. Anyone got any photos of their setup?? |
Hey Mike,
I'm out of town at the moment, but I can get you a picture this weekend. If you're anything like me and can't wait that long, I did find that braided rubber hose from an auto parts store was thicker and seemed to resist kinking better than the stuff from a bike shop. -Jeff |
Thanks Pat and Jeff. Yep, I'd like to see a photo of how someone else has set theirs up. I'll play around with different lengths of more rigid tubing some more but earlier today, it just conked out at the traffic lights (with the filter in) after riding for a bit. There was plenty of gas in the tank (it's clear after all!) but wasn't sure whether it was going on to reserve or not as I haven't had it long and don't know what the actual reserve capacity is. There was definitely fuel in the filter when it stopped but I'd put a pretty cheepo plastic filter in there and the resulting fuel line layout doesn't look too clever.
So is the general consensus not to fit an in-line fuel filter with the IMS tank then? |
