See if you can figure out why: http://actiontouring.com/pic/fb.jpg |
While not familiar with the DR's carb, some carbs are vented internally and others with the vent tubes (noted above), can vented by small hoses that hang down and routed to under the bike. If its been leaking for a while, dust can build up on the end of the vent hose and effectively plugging the vent hose, plugging the vent tube. Maybe look under the bike and clean the hose ends hanging down. Won't hurt and may help.

Trolling for Trouble again? I thought you Chris scared you off?
YES, any bike with a carb can leak. So the float bowl fills up and then fuel runs out the vent tube ... and where does it go from there? Onto your garage floor and your house burns down. Hey, you really got this one figured out. Better stick to Bings! The solution is to simply fix the float needle so NO GAS leaks out in the first place. As a safety precaution ... always turn off fuel tap. The DR's Mikuni BST40 carb vents in a different place ... on the side of the carb ... which is routed down to air box. Quote:

My KTM and my Yamaha both vent to free air instead of (indirectly) into the cylinder. I know the US govt had a different view on this so in US BMW had to use a electronic controlled shut-off valve on the fuel line. Most owners removed the system. |
