Kickstarter kit DRZ 400
Anyone know where one can buy these in the UK?
I want to fit one to my CCM404. |
I bought mine mail order from the USA about half the price quoted in the UK even when you take into account shipping.
I will try to find the paperwork and post here where I got it from. |
It's not where I got mine from but a quick search found
Kick Starter Set DRZ400 :: Suzuki DR :: Offroad & Dual Sport :: www.oneidasuzuki.com also a couple on eBay.com |
Any Suzuki dealer can get the kick start kit in for you - it's part number 26300-29813
That said, when I checked with Fowlers a couple of months ago it was £246.52 +VAT (£290 ish inc VAT). I got a second hand set from a kicker model off ebay for £150, the kick start lever itself is a bit tired (slack in the swivel and deep gouges where it hits the footpeg) but the internals were all unmarked, it worked first kick and is fine as a back up. If I have time/can be bothered I may make up a bush to repair the swivel. In fairness I did have to buy it a new oil seal (generic seal of the right size from simplybearings.co.uk for about £2 delivered) and a new crankcase cover gasket (£13 from Suzuki) both of which are obviously in the Suzuki kit but not reusable with second hand bits. As mine's a bit slack, I did ask, and apparently the lever itself is about £130 from Suzuki, even without all the internals... :eek3: |
Is there any work that needs doing to the engine for it to fit the kit or does the kit come with everything you need??
Where would i find instructions for fitting this kit?? |
The kit comes with everything you need. I replaced the supplied decompression lever because it looked like the throttle off a 1920s Atco Lawnmower.
I have a link to a great set of photo instructions somewhere, I'll dig it out. I will also find where I bought the one I've got to fit to my S. All in, the kit took me about half a day to fit. That's on an E with the decompressor. I should imagine it'd be a couple or three hours on an S. PS http://mr-cob.smugmug.com/Motorcycle...997029&k=yDKix I bought my last one from Honda East Toledo but it'd be worth shopping around. The part number is 26300-29810 (it says on the instructions "Installation time 1.3 hours" so I guess I must've dicked around a bit too much !!) |
It'll probably take me 3 days to fit it to my ccm then cause I'm a rubbish mechanic!!
|
Posted a link in my previous reply. The photo instructions are important; there's a piece that needs to go a certain way round which isn't clear in the notes that come with the kit (can't remember which bit though)
I'll be fitting one a kit to an S later this week so I'll let you know. |
It is important to install big spring for kicker gear correctly. It must be under tension. First time I installed it wrong way, result was ruined case as gear stopper bolt punctured thin aluminum case.
I find it quite difficult to start S-model with kick-starter as it does not have manual decompression lever and bike has high compression. But it has saved my ass once when battery went flat due to fried strator. Probably need some more practice. :) Ahto |
Just get a bigger battery and spend the £300 on cheap booze and fast women.
