Looking for DR 650 engine guards
I'm looking for engine guards to protect foot shifters and brakes for two 2009 DR 650's .
I have been searching for two days and the only ones I found came with skid plate which I already have. A while back I did find a supplier that had what I was looking for but now that I want them I can't find that site again. Any help would be great.! Freedom Fider |
I have these that protect the casings from the shifter and brake. They work really well - they have been ride tested.
Engine Guard Main Page Twisted Throttle also has an complete engine guard. I have no experience with these though. Daryll |
Thanks Black Beast
Actually I'm looking for bars that come out away from the bike alittle , Like I said I did find them one time on line but now I can't find them again. Thanks Freedom Rider |
You are right, I do remember someone selling them and don't see it on Twisted Throttle site or on the SW Motech site. Guess there wasn't enough demand.
Have you checked out Thumpertalk? |
Black Beast
I think your right , I'm sure I saw them on Twisted Throttle but I will give Thumpertalk a go. Thanks Freedom Rider |

could this be what you were looking for? it's called a tank guard, but the description makes reference to engine protection. |
Unfortunately this is a sore spot of the DR that nobody has taken care of yet. While the case covers from AMP are nice (I have them on my bike) they will not prevent your levers from bending or breaking, or even worse your shifter shaft:

I am currently working with an Australian fabricator on getting a rally style aluminum bash plate with tool boxes made, but he has been dragging his feet and it will be very expensive - surely more than 99% of the people will be willing to spend. This is the version he makes for the KTM LC4: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...2/IM000951.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...2/IM000954.jpg |
happy trails highway pegs
Hi Michael, I have been running the Happy trials Highway pegs/engine guards on my ride from Sydney to London. They have been great except for one crash when the front washed out on an oily checkerplate bridge in Pakistan. One side folded and bent the brake leaver but that was the only time. I had it heated and straitened then they welded a reinforcing over the week spot. The fold down pegs are a bit flimsy and have to replace the bolt a few times but the best thing might be to make your own with some steal 1/2 square tube and bolt it through the bash plate mounts like the happy trails.
