Suzuki DRZ400S 2003 Bajadesigns kit??

Hi all!

Since 2 months i am travelling on a Suzuki DRZ400 S (2003).

See a picture of the bike here:
4-06; Yarumela ruines, La Paz, Honduras | El libro más grande…

The engine has a metal 'Bajadesigns' plate. I just can't figure out by searching the internet what this specifically means for my bike. I am pretty sure the bike is equiped with a bigger fuel tank, could this be a part of a Bajadesigns kit??

I would really like to know in what ways my bike differs from the original version.. Any ideas someone??

Your help is appreciated.
Paul

Look here.......

SUZUKI

But I don't know why you would have all that if you have the "S" !

yeah i have been checking the bajadesigns website too.. They sell dual sport kits for this bikes.. My bike is far from original..(was stripped for offroad and put back together with random parts..)

But my bike has a 'bajadesigns' metal plate/cover at his engine.. Furthermore the bike has been registered in El Salvador as a 'Suzuki DRZ400 S Baja'..

Any changes from the inside?

Tell me... What brand is your carb ?

Do you have a black digital speedo ?

Do you have an ignition ???

Your bike could be the E model... Theres no other reason you would have a baja electrical kit on there as the S already has all of those components as stock..

Maybe someone uprated the stator for extra lights but that also doesnt make sense if it was stripped down for offroad..

This sounds like a case saver made by Baja Designs stuck on the clutch cover (probably using rtv silicon). People do this to both the E and S model bikes because the cases are made out of very weak magnesium which will crack if you drop the bike and the brake/gear pedals touch the engine casing. The bike wil be the same inside (unless it has a 440cc big bore kit: don't know if Baja Designs make these too).

In the picture below the case has Baja Designs written on it (The army issue dinner plate doesn't!:( ).

thanks for your responds!! Sorry i am late, semana santa here in Nicaragua!

First.. it is indeed the exact plate as seen on the picture!! Good work Chris!

For Touring Ted, I haven't got the bike with me now, so can't have a better look at the carb. The bike hasn't got a speedo at all but DOES have electrical ignition. I suppose this makes it the S indeed!?

So we'll assume it is just a case saver and not a bajadesigns electrical kit! At least no major differences, i don't think so. Just travelling, so allright for now!!! Don't have my garage with me.. :-) Thanks for helping guys!!

All S models came with an electric boot. Early E models came as kick only, but since about 2001 they were electric only as standard. If it has no speedo as standard, I imagine it is an E. As well as carb differences and a different motor top end, the standard E has a smaller headlight glass than the S.

In this picture, an E is on the left and an S is in the middle.
