Do 120/90-17 Heavy Duty Inner Tubes actually exist ?

Yeah, they definitely do exist but are hard to find. Reason is apparently that 17" is a tyre size for road bikes and road bikes seldom need heavy duty (that's what the guys in the shop told me). The only place where I found and recently bought one is on ebay, so have a look there for 'Heavy Duty Tubes'.

I wouldn't agree with the guys in that shop, some offroad bikes have had 17" rears since the mid-80s or before. You could always get heavy duty tubes in 17" but not all shops have them or know how to get them.

Yeah, I heard the same story from the chaps Ive called.
Ive checked out ebay etc.. using a many different strings. Good to know its a common issue though and not just me missing something.

They have a 2.5-3mm version for a 130/70 -17
I can't believe that it would be that different from a 120/90 -17 tube

Yeah, I know. There's a lot of adventure touring bikes with 17" rear wheels out there, my DR650 included. But try to tell that the guys in the shops...

I found the old ebay listing where I bought my tube from (link), they sell it for AU$23.

- Will 130/70-17 fit a 120/90-17 tyre safely ?

- Marco, do you recommend those inner tubes ? (Ive emailed the chaps in Aus to see if they will ship to the UK)

Will fit fine......

Iv used kinds of crazy sizes and never had an issue.. Sometimes you just have to use what you can find while on the road.

You can use 18" in a 17" tyre too but only do it if you have to..

You can use a 21" tube in a rear if you have to as well!
How different can it be? 70% of 130mm isn't all that different from 90% of 120mm.
Certainly not enough to worry about.

See how much they expand?

As BikingMarco said the Suzuki DR650 uses a 17" rear still.

As long as you fit the tube evenly ie no folds in the rubber you can use a bigger tube, no probs.
