MOTs on long term travel
Just a question.
If you are traveling for over a year what do you do when your MOT expires?? Just wondering as i assume that most countries will need to know that that your vehicle is "roadworthy" Apologies if this question is already asked. |
As far as I can tell other countries aren't bothered about an MoT - I have only ever had people look at the V5 to check ownership and if required insurance papers. I asked the DVLA about this and they have no way to allow an MoT equivalent to be carried out anywhere and they are not fussed about MoT's that run out in other countries - their suggestion was that when you get back to the UK if the MoT has expired you book a retest and takke the bike straight from the port to the 'place of testing or repair'

There's a comprehensive discussion on the subject up in the trip paperwork section. It's the top "sticky". In essence there seems to be no way of staying legal if the vehicle is out of the country for more than 12 months if you intend to keep it UK registered.
