Balkans insurance and other info
 

Hi,
I'm planning to visit Albania and the other Balkan countries later in July but my UK insurance only covers EU countries (the Balkan states are not in the EU) and the insurers won't extend it. I plan to get to Albania from Romania and then go up the coast.
Has anybody had any experience of this problem? Is it possible to buy insurance at the border and how much does it cost? Any other non-insurance info would be welcome too.

I took a classic car round the Balkans last year. The broker said they could not provide cover other than for the EU so I contacted the actual company providing the insurance directly and pointed out the countries I was visiting were all part of the Green Card scheme. After a couple of days i was told to recontact the broker and low and behold, 6 weeks cover for Bosnia, Serbia and FYR Macedonia for £40. May not be relevant in your case but worth mentioning I hope ?

Apart from the insurance issues the Balkans are wonderful.
