Battery issues
We are stuck in Lima unable to find a battery for F650gs BMW 2007 any suggestions BMW Lima doesn't have this battery
|
Where or how long to get another battery?
While you wait or go to the other place you can Buy a small cheap car battery (motorcycle batteries are more expensive), mount it on the rear rack and run leads back to it. This will get you running. |

Secondly, if BMW Lima does not have it, they should damned well be able to tell you where to get a standard bike battery in an, err, small city like Lima. If not, show the battery to the next shadow-tree car mech, cop, cab driver or scooter driver and they should be able to point you to the right direction. |
You only have to look for a battery with the same Ah or bigger that fits into the holder on the bike AND with plus and minus in the same place.
Any model will do. If you can't find that, a battery with less Ah can be used but it will last shorter when driving in conditions where the battery isn't charged sufficiently, like night driving with heated grips etc. on. |
Battery fluid
Is the battery really to blame, or is it out of electrolite. These BMW 650's are notorious for boiling out all the liquid, especially in hot weather. I have had to replace the battery acid several times on a major trip to South America and back to Canada. Usually requiring a top up every 4,000 miles. seems the voltage regulators put out to much juice. Worth a look.

If you top up a battery, it should be with destilled water, not acid.
Only if it runs out should you supplement with acid, if it boils out, only the water evaporates as the acid has a higher boiling point than water. |

Some experience...
If your battery is very very low in fluid... and you then fill with water... and then charge it ... You may find (as I did) that the fluid level INCREASES significantly. :oops2: ------------ I would only fill to a level that just covers the top of the plates, not to the 'Low Fluid' mark. Then charge and see where you are. |
