Blistering Metzeler Tourance Next Tyre
The Metzeler Tourance Next front tyre on my Triumph Tiger 800 XRx started showing weird looking bulges at places around 6 inches apart. It seemed like the tyre was getting ready to burst, although there was some tread still left on the tyre. When we removed the tyre the bulges persisted. Upon closer inspection we found that the outer surface of the rubber had somehow blistered and the inner surface was strong as ever.
I’ve used my fair share of motorcycle tyres but have never come across such a thing. Thoughts? https://i0.wp.com/deelipmenezes.com/.../1-3.jpg?w=719 https://i0.wp.com/deelipmenezes.com/.../2-2.jpg?w=720 |
That tire looks pretty well-worn to me, I doubt I'd ride far with even without the blisters. With the blisters, not a chance I'd ride it.
I seriously doubt that any warranty, etc. would cover it, but have you asked the store where you bought it? |
Agree. This was supposed to be the last ride with this tyre.

i think they call that cupping. fairly common on high mileage tires.
how many miles did you get out of them? |
17K kms. More than I thought I would get.

Yea, my impression is that front tire is worn out. DONE. I would not ride it on wet roads at all ... and very carefully in the dry. :nono:
BLISTERs? If those are truly blisters or tread separation of some kind, then Metzeler will happily give you a NEW tire ... free. But if it's just odd wear or cupping, then they won't. Your first pic looks like blistering, 2nd one? Not sure. Any sort of blister means free tire for you. Most Metzeler dealers can handle this. 20 years ago Metzeler had a run of bad front Tourance tires, mostly fitted to BMWGS. They wobbled due to a manufacturing problem. Metzeler replaced many front tires during that time. So they are good about covering a fault with the tire. Good luck! :mchappy: |
That tire is almost worn all the way down. I had a set of tourances on my vstrom and wore them down to the metal strip before replacing them with new ones.

I've run about 6 sets of Tourance next on my GS 1200 and haven't experienced any problems
Found them to be excellent tyres with very good lifespan (15 to 20000'kms) and good performance in both dry and wet conditions on sealed roads I have seen cupping when the tyres are well worn but your images appear to be something else |
