I learnt on my journey from India to Uk thro the Silk Route that the local NAAN served free in all restaurants eaten all by itself is the best food for dehydration. Its time tested.

If its any concern, then vitamin pills are easy to bring along. I have eaten 10 years old meals left over from an expedition with no ill effects at all, even the taste was as new :-) |
Army surplus store. £10 gets you 72hr field rations. Ask my airsofting son!,,!

I stay away from the freeze dried stuff. I buy top ramon and put it in a large 1 gallon zip lock bag. I remove as much air that I can so it sits really flat. My local store carries chunks of chicken in a sealed bag that you do not have to refrigerate. I take 3 of those bags which sit flat and when I want to eat I just make the top ramon add the chicken along with some spices and eat. It is really good. I usually keep about 3 days worth of food like that and it all fits into a small stuff sack.

Although not dehydrated, and only in the UK, but I take a few of these with me on my trips for backup. The nicest thing is that is they're relatively healthy and very tasty. If you're into it, you can have gluten or milk free ones too.
Boil them in the bag on the camp stove, then when done, use the water for a cup of coffee or tea as the pouches don't leave any nasty stuff in the water either. Plus, no washing up :) About - Our Story - Look What We Found |
