Having assisted those who have worked abroad and returned "home" with disabling illness or injury for many years...and after riding Spain for a few more weeks will be riding south of Bogota, Colombia to Buenas Aires, Argentina I respectfully request information regarding Ebola and over landing by motorcycle.

Just want real info, not scare or hype.

This info might include preventative actions, symptoms, treatments and current geography worldwide to avoid.

It is in East Africa .... long ways to South America!

Transmission by body fluids .. don't eat or drink what others have used. Don't share needles. SOP if you want to stay healthy.

But one case in Texas has you worried? doh Not the kind of spirit I'd expect on HU... I'd think your chances of getting ebola in America are so much less than being killed in a motor vehicle accident there that if your worried by ebola then you won't be able to move. Just buy some lottery tickets .. say 10, and get on with it.

There is always hype by news agencies, but I would suggest avoiding the three main countries--Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone for now. There was a lot of hype and exaggeration following AIDS way back in the day, but this disease could be a quick killer once exposed. Of course, those who seem to be getting it, from the stories I have been reading, are those with pretty direct contact with a person who already has/had it (i.e. helping carry them from cars or washing them, etc), but it seems like it wouldn't be worth the risk if you can avoid those places hardest hit in the meantime.

Ebola is spread by bodily fluids. Anyone ever see what happens when you do something like sneeze?

Dear Warin, thank you for any concerns you might have regarding my emotional state of worry/stress because of Ebola.

Let me put your mind at ease.

1. At the moment.... I am in Spain, not "America" and even if you are referring to "the Americas" both north and south because it is true I will be in South America later this month, but here or there I am not "worried" about Ebola, and if you revisit my initial post this thread, you will not find any indication that I am worried.

2. If you have read my recent post at the Hubb Pub under "Why I ride" you will learn that I am well aware of the "if it bleeds it leads" nature of the mainstream press. I invite you to read that post and in the context of that post, determine if you not only a survivor but a man who would rather help others survive than do them any harm?

3. It is interesting, that you referenced the possibility of having an accident with Ebola. I am at a lost to understand how you have equated my comments on this tread and my willingness to ride? I have posted here to establish a helpful thread regarding Ebola. Could you please keep this discussion on topic - Ebola. Thank you.

4. Ebola via bodily fluids can be transmitted by a person who has ebola - and from my research, like "typhoid Mary" may be a carrier of Ebola who never show symptoms, then dines at a restaurant, blow his/her nose, spits or coughs into a cloth or paper napkin that is picked up by a waiter/waitress who then transmits Ebola to the plate served at the next table etc, etc.

5. Lottery tickets?

Let's keep this all on topic. It would be helpful to hear from anyone who has Ebola related experience in West Africa or medical professionals.

Xfiltrate, your original post appears to indicate ignorance regarding ebola. Responses seem to assume you're asking, in admitted ignorance, whether and in what manner you might be personally at risk.

If you want a different kind of information, ask differently. Don't attack those trying to provide. For example, if you're trying to generate a thread where relevant information from those with personal experience or professional expertise can share with others, ask for that specifically and succinctly from the start.

If you find yourself misunderstood, think carefully about the possibility that you're not communicating clearly before lashing out at those who don't seem to get it.

Above are Reuters and CBS news articles regarding ebola. I prefer several alternative news sites ,like the DrudgeReport.com and CorbettReport.com but feel obligated.... to post the mainstream as above.... and just mention the alternative sites, which are not really alternative, as you will learn.

Both of the alternative sites mentioned above reference mainstream articles more often than not.

At this point I would advise everyone to do their own research. If anyone is interested, my personal opinion is: ebola has been used, or might be used as a biological weapon. Time will tell if this observation is true.
