The registered owner of the bike, his mother is being charged with and fined a total of $1449 for driving without due care and attention, excessive speed, and driving without insurance. Under BC law the owner of a motor vehicle is held liable for its' operation regardless of who was driving it. She now has the option of formally declaring who was in control of the vehicle to remove the burden of the charges from herself. Otherwise the actual driver can't be charged unless witness to whom this twit bragged come forward to testify.

Police seize motorcycle in 299-km/h joy ride


The police have a suspect but can't name him since they can't yet charge him due to lack of proof. But a local TV news channel has named the suspect, Randy Scott, and even showed his Facebook profile picture along with one of his posts bragging about fast riding without insurance. Not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

If he's that unsafe, he shouldn't be permitted to drive. Period. Same goes for you, for me, and for his mom. No one has a right to drive on public highways unless he/she can do it in relative safety.

Note that I'm not claiming safety is ever absolute, and I'm not taking a stand on exactly how safe is safe enough. I'm saying that if your statement (quoted above) is true, this particular person falls way short of the standard by which one is permitted to drive.

I wouldn't mind having his skills, but I've no inclination to ever do anything like that. You can call it "balls" but I call it "sheer unadulterated stupidity." It changes nothing.

FWIW, I'm no Mr. Perfect, and I seldom follow speed limits. That, too, has nothing to do with the guy in the video.

But I can assure you that many people on here (maybe most?), myself included, are anything but little Ms. Perfects. We do like to crack that throttle in the proper environment and have our own little thrills. But doing stuff like that in traffic while weaving through Mommy, Daddy and the kids heading up island for the weekend is sheer sociopathic lunacy and simply can't be excused.

Banditderekn and rory799 I'm more than a little shocked that anybody could seriously admire this kid in anyway shape or form.
I've been attending accidents as a firefighter for 22 years and many a time had to extract a lifeless broken body from a car killed by a moron like this kid.
A few weeks ago a 23 year old shot across a quiet side street at 100km ph , double the speed limit narrowly missing a couple on their way home after a quiet night out, to hit a brick wall.
As we removed his mangled body from the car, arms and legs snapped like twigs and dangling by skin only, I only felt anger that this moron nearly killed 2 innocent people and his own family were going to have to deal with his death and the sight of his smashed up body. I wont go into details on what his face looked like.
It wasn't a bike but the mentality was identical to that idiot doing 200km above the limit.

If this kid is a hero to you I think you need to take a real hard look at yourself

I too have ridden at high speed on that portion of hiway however I did it at 3:00AM,Time and Place considered.
The person who the video shows is a pair of hands that's all that can be seen,the bike is a blue bike that's all that I can see,as for the police (aka Saanichton Nazis) catching this guy from a IP Address pfft...they are playing on the ignorance of the publics knowledge, I guess they have know idea that one can download something from the Internet and then post it whereas it shows the suspects IP.They Have nothing other than some disgruntled neighbors that don't like bikes (aka Blue Hairs).
The cops are shooting for more media exposure so they can prove to the city how they need more overpriced SUV's and higher speed crusers is my guess,
I have been in Mexico and Guatemala for the last four months and have put donations in cups for the police and ambulance staff so that they can purchase GAS and these clowns want the public to see their Weak efforts of catching a bad guy on a bike,Personally I hope the mother sues the crap outa the city and the suspect reply to the investigators, Well,"It wasn't me". should be the only reply needed,and then also sues the crap outa the city for deflamation.

What they have is a video which shows several scratches on the bike's cockpit which exactly match the scratches on the seized bike. No angry anti-cop tirade is going to change that. They obviously did some detective work and then positively identified the bike via the IP address and tips from the public. I seriously doubt that he bragged to "blue hairs" but more likely to his age peers, some of whom would have been disgusted by this, or simply didn't like him ...he's not exactly a winner. I work in an industry where the workers are in their twenties and early thirties. They're pretty much universally disgusted by this twit.

I'm hoping that as long as they followed proper procedures a judge will agree that this is the bike in question and will grant the permanent forfeiture under the Civil Forfeiture Act. BC law makes the owner of a motor vehicle liable for its' operation even if they weren't driving it. Somebody will be out a $15,000 bike ...I hope!

Charges against the actual driver will unfortunately be more difficult unless someone comes forward to testify. We can only hope that the universe will sort this out without innocent victims involved. Anyone who endangers the public, drives at 300km/h on a busy highway, does so on a bike not registered in his own name, has only a learners licence, has no insurance, has 27 moving violations, and has 5 licence suspensions is beneath contempt and definitely not a hero.

You take your chances, you pay the price.....this guy is probably going to jail for street racing infractions. (greater than 50km over the posted limit). In most countries this type of riding is extremely frowned upon, but the beauty of having a bike in some countries is that you are allowed to split lanes (without exceeding the limit just to be technical). Canada has some of the most unfriendly biker attitudes anywhere. You can't even go around cars and shuffle to the front of the line at a red light, let alone split lanes while moving. The whole idea of a bike is the smaller footprint, and being able to get around traffic and parking. The fact that you are a smaller more nimble mode of transportation gets you nowhere in Canada....you get targeted because the cops are all expecting some kind of "short cut" type of behaviour.
Where I now live (Barbados) bikes can go anywhere, and go around all manner of traffic without fear of being hounded. It really is a little too "freestyle" as a lot of the riders here have high powered super motard type bikes (a lot with no lights, etc.). These fellows pull huge wheelies every where and anywhere....it's a little sad because they give a bad name to all the other more safety conscious riders. However, most of it is just showing off without going to the extremes of the rider on Vancouver Island. WI wouldn't attempt any of those things in Canada. Somewhere along the line, each rider will choose how far he will go in skirting the legal limits when on their bike....one just needs to be aware of the penalties in the various jurisdictions because the Canadian anti-Street racing laws include forfeiture of the vehicle. (recently this included 15 exotics like Ferrari's, Lamborghini's etc. in one swoop on some very wealthy Chinese brats)
