If only it was that simple. Not touching feces in the first place helps a lot too.

Exposure to germs is actually good for a human immune system as it helps a body build up a resistance to bacteria and infections. Unfortunately western media and marketing by the cleaning product industry have many people believing any thing which isn't more sterile than an operating theatre is dangerous for them.
Yeah, dysentery, cholera and other niceties is not a problem at all, because it's actually good for you. It is only an attitude problem, and it's not dangerous at all. It's all due to Western sensitivies. Bear in mind, I am NOT talking about germs in general. I am talking about literally touching feces.

Sorry, but you attempting an appeal to authority by claiming to have studied microbiology is ridiculous, given that you don't know about how fecal matter is a real issue in transferring diseases.

Really? You really think that all else equal, just as much fecal bacteria touches your hand with toilet paper in between you butt and hand as washing your bum with a squirt bottle and massaging your bunghole with your fingers?

And, also, do people ignore the point about not using running water to wash your hands afterwards, as is so common in Musling countries, the moment you move out of the cities?

Anyway, we have people claiming touching feces is not a health issue, that germs, even from feces is not a problem when it comes to spreading diseases, and that because paper is porous, therefore you're just as much in touch with bacteria than if using your fingers directly.

Excellent. I really like just how stupid this is, and just how little TheWarden seems to have actually been educated by his claimed "education".

Attitudes like yours are not wanted or welcome on the Hubb

I graduated from University having studied food microbiology on my first course, since then I have 16 years experience in the environmental industry, what qualifies you to make your points?

Wow, now this thread has developed into a p!ssing competition as to who knows more about poo... I've debated whether this thread needs to be moved to Traveller's Health or The Pub. I'll go for the latter.

But arguments from authority to support plain falsehoods are?

As I said before, denying that faeces plays a big part in the transfer of a plethora of diseases says it all. I don't care how many times you claim to have an education in microbiology, where you claim to have gotten it, or how many years of experience you have in an almost completely unrelated industry.

Some sh!t posts deleted.

Here are some forum rules: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...hu_forum_rules

I don't know how to say this in easy to understand terms, but having to moderate a bun-fight about who knows more about sh!t is not something I signed up for when becoming a mod on this bike/4x4/pushbike travel forum. Both of you, please take your sh!t off-forum...

Life is too short.

Thanks for your understanding.

I would like to have some scientific reference from the bogroll and the lefthand side. I got kicked out of half the schools I went to, never got a proper job and don't feel qualified to make any scientific statements due to that obvious lack of accepted education... However, I can claim that from a very young age I had a natural instinct telling me ppl wer talking high level bullshit as (I was maybe 7 or 8 years old) a dentist explained to me that amalgame, quicksilver (poisonus) and led (poisonus) mixed together would be just fine to fix up holes in peoples teeth. I felt for me this was bullshit and told my classmates that I would never EVER allow anybody tu stick that stuff anywhere near me. My cusin (who later studied medecine and is a vet now) told me at a family gathering that he was really impressed with the conclusion I made at that young age cause he remembered when the topic came up during his studies. So my (obviously pretty healthy) instinct tells me water and left hand can't be so bad. Prove me wrong, but this germ-panic bullshit is just bullshit. How could humanity have survived 10000 years without bogroll if this was such an issue? How long have we had roll for? 100 years max? C'm on... Happy to learn thou, but it will take better argument than who has the bigger (academic) cock... Up to the guys with the degrees now!

Wet wipes are a vile invention. Like disposable nappies. These things are clogging up our rivers and seas, blocking drains and will be for the foreseeable future...

This thread takes me back to a rhyme I learned at Primary School.

"Fart Fart the bum is calling, must have been the beans this morning,
went to the toilet and crapped on the floor.
There was no toilet paper so used my finger for a scraper...

And thaaaaat's what you do in the moooorrrrnniiiiing"

I hope this is a useful post. It's definitely keeping in line with the rest of this thread. :thumbup1:

Phew!

What an amazing but absolutely essential thread. For my sins I smoke rollies or roll ups. In absolute emergencies if you take a fag paper (colour or weight immaterial) fold it into 4, pinch the corner out you will be left with a slice of paper you can put your finger through. This suffices to wipe your bum and fold up and contain the remaining crap on your finger and the piece you have ripped out will be solid enough to clean the sh*t out of your finger nail. It has worked for me in emergencies.

Not that I am advocating anyone take up smoking so they have emergency toilet paper but for 40p you get 50 sheets and it takes up no space at all. Like I said great for EMERGENCIES :D

PS if you have fat fingers or a huge arse buy the king size Rizlas.:innocent:
PPS a small bottle of hand sanitizer (40p max) will take care of all of those nasty germs and it will all take up much less space then a packet of those puppies on a roll!!!

What an entertaning thread!

Firstly I have to agree with Ted that wet wipes are one of the vilest inventions of the modern era, and I hate that 'chemical' feeling that I equate with feeling dirty much more than, well, actual dirt.

I find it amusing that people think their OWN excrement is somehow going to give them typhoid etc; it was already inside you once so with a litttle bit of rational thought........

Having spent a substantial portion of my life working with animals on the farm I have simply lost any great worry about contact with excrement, blood etc etc. Not washing my hands fastidiously every 20 seconds when I come into contact with fecal matter hasn't killed me yet, nor will it.

There is a slightly scary and proven to be unhealthy obsession with cleanliness in todays society, largely due to heavy weight advertising campaigns funded by the same multinational companies that make all this crap (excuse the pun).

Nicely said. It actually reminds me of the 'fear' people have of radiation, popularised by our lobby of tabloid-educated experts, even though there is NO evidence whatsoever of any adverse health effects of low dosage radiation. This fear strengthens our dependace on fossil fuels rather than nuclear power. Still, surely there are no powerful interests who would be against a non fossil-fuel economy...

And then there is GM crops... MMR vaccine...

Sorry to deviate ffrom the topic of sh1t!

This thread does amuse me ... and ref farms and animals... for the last 3 evenings I've been shovelling 84 wheelbarrows + nine tralier loads of horse shiit to clear a barn for my daughters horse! The deeper I dug the smell got worse.

Got home smelling of Shiit, looking like shiit and feeling like shiit... And no Mr wet or vegan Wipe was available in this instance. After a beer and a good scrub all was fine. Think the beer was priority though.. oops... All them germs and I'm still alive as well ... although I'm sat on my own at work for some reason :helpsmilie:
