Ireland, fishing in the sea...what are the rules.
Hi folks, a supremely un-bike related question, but I wonder if any Irish folk/fishermen know the answer to this?
Here in Scotland you can fish in coastal waters without a permit. (Or so is my understanding). Am off to Donegal in September for a week and was thinking of taking my smuggler rod out with me to fruitlessly thrash the Atlantic into a white froth. Just wondering what the rules are out there, will I need a permit? Any tips on what lures to use/what I can hope to catch would be much appreciated! Cheers, Matt :) |

Lug/ragworm/crab are good bait, any toby/large mepps type lures are good too.Pollack, whiting, bass, dogfish etc. to be had,ask locally what works best when you get there:cool4: 'Tis a beautiful place, enjoy! |
Thanks fledermaus, exactly the info I was looking for. Can't wait, been meaning to get out to Ireland for years. It looks stunning.

Apart from biological impulses(!) , I can't think of a better combination than biking and fishing. Have a great time and dont forget the trout fishing too - similar to Scotland's lochs and rivers.

Hi,
The sea fishing in Ireland is legendary, take some small 'storm shad rubber lures' about 4 inches long, they are lethal for pollock. A lot of the rock marks in Ireland have tourist info signs on them telling you the tide height, species and methods etc..... Any local worth his salt will advise you... Lee |
na no permit needed so just dip her in and get fishy! haha!:thumbup1:
